The Salt River Wild Horses are one of my favorite photography subjects. A few hours of "wild horse therapy" and I'm ready to tackle another week's work! I like to photograph them as a "horse-scape", where the horses are shown in their environment.
I can't tell you how many pictures I have of the back ends of horses!! It seems they're always either walking away from me or they have their heads down, grazing on the sparse desert grass or eelgrass in the river. This horse did me a favor and turned to check out a disturbance to his left, allowing me to shoot this great horse-scape! I love the pose, and the giant saguaros in the background.
My preferred medium for wild horse photographs is metal, with canvas a close second. If you prefer a rustic look, I recommend pearl fine art paper with a mat and wood grain frame. These photographs make wonderful gifts and can be printed more than 6' tall! Imagine how it would enhance that blank wall on a stairway.
